Personal Branding: Visual Motifs
July 3rd, 2008We were at the RIBA a couple of weeks ago at the Fuel conference. The day’s talks were mostly about how you might use new web tools to interact with existing customers and bring in new ones; it was a really useful day and we met some great people.
The thing that stuck with me the most was the idea of ‘personal branding’. This was thanks to Steve Pearce from Poke (www.pokelondon.com) who wears these great red framed glasses.
When people talk about personal branding they tend to describe peoples non physical attributes: like what they stand for.
Richard Branson, for example, has a strong personal brand. “He had a privileged upbringing but that’s not what he’s sold,” says (Louise Mowbray, personal branding expert). “He’s sold the image of the underdog. He is the explorer; he is the guy who takes risks and he’s lived his life authentically by that.”

But what about that great hair and goatee! Has it changed in the last couple of decades.
It’s an interesting aspect to personal branding that can be mostly closely compared to logo design or store window design even. So what subtle but memorable visual motifs can you give yourself or your team to communicate your message??
